Different realities, common challenges: a look into cultures and social-environmental issues around the world
The challenges brought by development, modernization and urbanization throughout the world are many and diverse. Sustained and guided by an instrumental science that sees Nature as a mere resource – and later a dumpsite -, the Western idea of progress and its corollary economic system pose enormous obstacles to the construction of societies based on values such as cultural diversity and social-environmental justice.
This collection of images, made over the last eight years, aims to give a glimpse into the common issues we face, and it also hopes to shine a light on how Geography, Culture, Society and Economy are intertwined – shaping not only the way men interact with natural environment but also the problems that arise from this specific relation; not forgetting the pressures imposed by a global (unsustainable) economic system.
