Davao Oriental
A survivor from Typhoon Bopha, locally called Typhoon Pablo, poses for a portrait at his new home just outside Mati, capital of Davao Oriental province. The strongest tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines in 2012, Typhoon Bopha made landfall over Mindanao (second largest island in the Philippines) on December 4, and it took the lives of 51 people in Davao Oriental, mostly in floods. Extreme weather and climate events have become more frequent in the recent years thanks to climate change, and they aggravate already existing scenarios of injustice and inequalities.
