Side by side, two contrasting realities share a space in a central area of Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais. Despite some important progress over the last years —now threatened by a government focused on implementing some severe austerity policies that would hit the lower classes the hardest—, Brazil remains one of the most unequal countries in the world. According to Oxfam, the richest 5% of the population has the same wealth as the other 95%; and the 5 richest individuals have as much wealth as 50% of the population.
