Maubisse

Wearing a Brazilian soccer jersey, a boy sneaks from behind his house in Maubisse, Timor Leste. Nestled on green, rolling hills 70km south of the capital Dili, Maubisse is a historic town of about 6,000 inhabitants that has become quite a popular tourist destination. Home to a population of 1,2 million people; Timor Leste became an independent country only 2002, after hundreds of years of Portuguese colonization, followed by almost 25 years of Indonesian dominance – a period during which 200,000 people died as a result of fighting, famine and disease.
