One thousand faces of poverty

Poverty has a thousand faces and affects men and women of all ages, but is more concentrated in women, in sub-Saharan Africa, in rural subsistence areas, in urban suburbs which take in rural migration, in families whose heads are women, in indigenous groups, in child workers and in the prison population.

The recent international economic recession has given poverty new faces, especially among urban groups in privileged countries. Despite this, in developing regions vulnerable employment represents 56% of all employment as compared to 10% in developed regions.
