Eco feminism: Rights go along with responsibilities
Vandana Shiva, Indian eco-feminist who created the organization “Navdanya” to develop a system of organic farming, and promote the recovery of traditional autochthonous crops, which were replaced by cash crops during the Green Revolution. Among the activities developed were the free distribution of traditional seeds and training courses throughout the country. In 1987, she also created the Foundation for Diversity Women for Diversity, summarizing the relationship between women and biodiversity: women have been experts in seeds, seed producers, seed collectors and conservators of the world’s biodiversity.
She received the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1993 “for placing women and ecology at the heart of the discourse of modern development”.
