Between sky and sea: the highest mountains in Europe

The Aurunci are located in southern Lazio (Central Italy) and extend from the Gulf of Gaeta to the Valley of Liri while, to the west, they are bordered by the Ausoni Mountains. In Lazio, this is the only mountain range that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea with peaks exceeding 1,500 metres. The Aurunci are the highest mountains in Europe in terms of their distance from sea level.
