A pearl on the lake

In the heart of Ciociaria, situated on a hill at 430 m above sea level and at the foot of the southwest slope of the Marsica mountain range, stands the small village of Posta Fibreno (1,217 inhabitants). Its lake is one of the most evocative and unspoilt natural oases in central Italy and has been a source of attraction over 2000 years. Referring to this location, Cicero wrote: «I love the health and amenity of this place. Especially since my arrival here, I can’t satiate myself of so much beauty» (A. Carbone translation). Ciociaria is the name used to identify those areas on the southeast of Rome. Its territorial configuration corresponds roughly to the existing province of Frosinone, except on its Western and Southern portions. In the Roman and pre-Roman times, this territory was the place of encounter and contamination between different peoples and cultures, especially along the ancient livestock routes and grazing areas, which linked Ciociaria to the transhumance of Central and Southern Italy.
