Water bearer (Spain)

The jars used to fetch water were usually made of earthenware, with an average capacity of 8-10 litres, had one or two handles to help carry them and were rested on the head on a pad to keep them balanced, as can be seen in the mudéjar water bearer from the 13th century. To make the most of the journey, a chest jar with one handle was taken too, and this rested against hip and chest.
