In 2015, Africa has the worst global indicators for water, 32% of its inhabitants lack drinking water, which in any case, is not available to all the homes of such families as can access it. A high proportion of women must carry on going to fountains for drinking water.

Liberia has availability of drinking water similar to the average for all Africa (34%), but the availability of improved plumbing is much worse, as 83% of its inhabitants lack this, compared to the average for Africa which is 68%.

The Ashanti used figures as a counterweight for the gold dust with which they traded. These figures show scenes from daily life which are described in the proverbs of their rich oral tradition.
