The lowest rate in the world of adolescent motherhood

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, with a 61% urban population, provides no information to establish the Gender Development Index and the gender Inequality Index, nor for most other monetary indicators of poverty. There is a high proportion of women in the workforce (74%), although it is lower than men (86%) and only 0.5% of adolescents are mothers.

Of the available indicators, those related to education are adequate with 100% of literate adults, with no difference in schooling between the countryside (99%) and the city (100%). As regards health, life expectancy at birth is 71 and all deliveries are attended by qualified staff. However, almost half of under 5s in rural areas are underweight, double the figure for cities.
