The 15th of September

Here, Svetla photographed Victor helping Galya take pictures during a group walk. The bright rays of the rainbow inspire a sense of hope and romance. This photo was taken on September 15, the first day of school in Bulgaria. As in many Eastern European countries, the first day of school here is not just a regular day of lessons, but rather a big celebration where everyone gets together again after a long summer. The students wear their best clothes and participate in an opening ceremony with speeches, bringing flowers and sweets to their homeroom teacher. On the way to the park, we all wondered if we would see the children after their shortened school day, but our expectations were not met and our visit went smoothly.

Although no one in the group is a student anymore, each of us values education. Many of us are eager to continue learning new things, whether it be a language, technology, or another new skill. Unfortunately, there are not many places where people can continue to improve their knowledge for free. At Kukuryak, we dream of more such initiatives, making knowledge accessible to all.
