Fountain for relaxation
In her photographs, Maria wants to emphasize Sofia’s past. This, for example, is one of the oldest fountains in Sofia and a good place to relax.
Here, people can sit on a bench and drink water from the fountain when they take a break from work. In addition to relaxation, this fountain has other meanings. It is located next to Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, from where the entire city plan is revealed with the church as its crucial point. Few meters away are some other important historical sites, such as the monument in honor of the Jews saved by Bulgaria during World War II and St. Sophia, one of the oldest churches in the city. This fountain is named after St. George the Victorious, in whose honor Saint George’s Day is celebrated every year on May 6. It is a holiday for everyone named George and a day when lamb is always eaten.
