Levski in the monastery

Kukuryak knows a very interesting detail about the revolutionary Vasil Levski, whose monument can be seen in the Lyaskovski Monastery of St. Peter and St. Paul. The story goes like this: Vasil Levski managed to hide in the monastery. He is most important to the memories of our grandparents and past generations. In April 1869, Vasil Levski secretly arrived at the Lyaskovski Monastery and founded a revolutionary committee there. The monastery often provided shelter to other revolutionaries, such as those from the Veliko Tarnovo revolutionary district. By giving Levski shelter, the monks helped his cause in a simple but extremely important way. For them, Levski was just a man without a secure home who needed shelter, food, and peace. The monastery was not just a place of prayer, but a place of care and human solidarity.

The history of the Lyaskovo Monastery reminds us that people without a secure home are no less worthy or important. If at that time the doors of the monastery had remained closed out of fear or indifference, part of our history might not have happened.
