Men and sheep on the move

Today, sheep are raised solely for meat and milk. In the past, however, the income generated from the sale of wool was sufficient to pay shearers (carusatori) for their work. Currently, due to the import of wool from abroad, the local market has practically collapsed, and sheep wool is simply being discarded. Until about forty years ago, in Maranola, between April and May, on the day before shearing, sheep were moved from the mountain to the coast and washed into the sea.
