Water jug decorated by women (Spain)
Many different kinds of clay containers for water, have allowed to keep it fresh, when refrigerators did not exist. This water jar is “in the style “of Monóvar, Alicante, where they were sold. Decorating this kind of jar was traditionally a woman’s task, and the male potter who did this task in the latter part of the 20th century had learnt the decorative technique known as “embroidery” from the last woman artisan.
