Uses of water, water for livestock (Spain)

70% of available freshwater is used for agriculture and livestock, the latter being mainly for producing meat, milk and derivatives. Producing 1 kg of meat requires about 30 times more water than producing 1 Kg of wheat.

Draught animals were the basic force for agricultural work in Spain until the 70s, when emigration from the rural world combined with mechanisation. Livestock for meat, milk and derivatives increased greatly in Spain as from the 70s, and at slightly later dates, is increasing greatly in other parts of the world, like the equatorial jungle of Brasil and Ecuador.
