The influence of geography (I): La Raya seca (the dry border)

The landscape in the photo is typical of the interior border. The terrain is similar on both sides of La Raya. Currently, these regions in the interior border between Spain and Portugal are among the wildest and most depopulated in Europe, with a very elderly population and a subsidised economy, mainly directed towards the service sector.
