Textile artisans and rural artisans (Sri Lanka)
Tourism is a great opportunity for the poorer communities, and rural craftswomen are efficiently joining it.
Textile artisanship means keeping up agricultural activities while saving products for the tourist season. The advantage is that products are sold in the home, so that tourists get to see the daily cultural context of the craftswomen and their families. Textile artisanship has become an important source of income in rural settlements which promote tourism.
