Sexual and reproductive health (the Philippines)

Sexual and reproductive health includes the mechanisms for procreation and the functioning of the reproductive system at all ages of life, independence to choose one’s sexuality and partner, to decide whether to have children or not, and how many and when. It also includes sexually transmitted diseases and those resulting from gender violence.

Sexual and reproductive health clearly reflects our characteristic as a bio-cultural species, which is also visible in how we represent activities related to it. The Ifugao in the Philippines frequently and explicitly represented the pleasure of sex on wooden spoons which they used for eating.
