Rushes boat

The rushes boat is a children’s toy whose origins are lost in the mists of time. It is easy to make as the only material needed is a collection of rushes, a plant about 90cm tall which grows in the wetlands on the banks of rivers. Its leaves are cylindrical, long, straight and flexible.

When they are still green they are easy to shape into a boat. Buoyancy is guaranteed as the rushes are so light. The shapes vary depending on the maker.

El barquito de junco es un juguete infantil cuya utilización se pierde a lo largo de los tiempos. Su fabricación era sencilla, construido de un único material, el junco recolectado en las junqueras, planta de unos 90 centímetros de altura que vive en suelos húmedos, en riberas de los ríos. Su hoja es cilíndrica, alargada, recta y flexible.

Cuando esta verde es muy maleable, lo que permite dar forma al barquito. La flotabilidad está asegurada dada la liviandad del junco. Las formas varían según la imaginación del constructor.
