Delivery chairs were made from the readily available and different materials in each area, which determined their sale or hire price. Clay ones were more usual among rural families with few resources. Wealthier families could rent a delivery chair from the local religious brotherhood or have their own, as Miguel Delibes recounts in his novel “El Hereje” where he describes a delivery in a wealthy family in Valladolid during the 16th century.
