Paid work in salt flats (Spain)
The majority of the salt is obtained by evaporation in the salt flats, which provided work and pay for local people from villages around the salt-works.
The rapid industrial development of the 20th century led to its use in the preparation of different products like paper and cosmetics, so that less than 25% of salt produced today is used for human consumption.
