Latrines and toilets: still pending in Africa (Mozambique)

Africa is the continent with the worst indicators for improved sanitation, both in rural areas and in the suburbs of cities where rural migrants live. Circular buildings, with or without a roof, try to protect intimacy; a hole is dug in the ground crossed by parallel sticks for the user to lean on.

The number of deaths attributed to lack of water and suitable sanitation is slightly lower in Mozambique than for Africa as a whole (respectively: 38 and 43 per 100,000 inhabitants).
