Goats and pastoralists in the Capital of Italy
This image portrays some pastoralists with their flock of goats, always in Rome and, specifically, in Flaminio square. The flock is mainly composed of longhaired black and white goats with divergent flat horns. A black goat, located in the centre, appears to have curved backwards horns; on the left side, a goat with facial lines (capestrina) can also be seen. Morphologically, the white goats seem to resemble the type defined by ARSIAL as white monticellana goat, however they differ from the latter because of the horizontal and semi-erect posture of their ears.
This, and the previous image, both dated around the end of the 19th century, seem to suggest that flocks passing through the capital, during those years, were mainly composed of animals with divergent flat-section horns and with erect ears.
