Intercultural approach

The intercultural approach refers to relating with respect and valuing all cultures in order to create collective work alliances between the knowledge of indigenous and western peoples. Through this ethical commitment, all the health and welfare needs of the Vaupés territory are addressed, as well as the efforts and knowledge of various sectors and institutions which are articulated to generate far-reaching joint solutions. An effective mechanism corresponds to exercises co-constructed with the communities to carry out collaborative and horizontal research processes.

Additionally, the articulation with wise men and different people from the communities allows the development of intercultural protocols appropriate to the territory, thus contributing to the consolidation of the life plans of the associations of indigenous traditional authorities and the effective exercise of governance, autonomy and strengthening of their own systems oriented by ancestral wisdom and cultural guidelines.

An example of this orientation are various community projects proposed and successfully implemented by the communities, for example in health governance with emphasis on public health and sanitation through the establishment of hygiene posts in places of low accessibility, the production of soaps with local materials, and appropriate management of solid waste, among others.
