Protection for the wealthy

Amulets in the shape of sirens (see the picture of a silver one) to protect women and children were commonly used on the Catalan coast, but also on the west of the peninsula, by wealthy people. The popular belief –of Homeric tradition?- assured that sirens fascinated with their songs and that their look made them the bearers of prophylactic powers of a similar nature.
