Position and handling of delivery (Spain)

Vertical delivery in different positions has been the norm during our biological history, as can be seen from many artistic and ritual objects, from moral tradition and from written documents (including Egyptian hieroglyphics).

The results of the questionnaire on aspects of the life cycle in Spain carried out by the Ateneo de Madrid, between 1900-1901, sum up that diversity and its coincidences with other human groups. Early in the 20th century the three most common positions for delivery in Spain were: sitting on their partner 56%, standing up 22% and kneeling 17%; less frequently delivery chairs were used. Delivery chairs were used at home and guaranteed a vertical posture.
