Peri-urban Farming

In the present context of demographic pressure in cities, of climate change and of privatisation of common resources and lands, preserving peri-urban farming areas is seen as a crucial factor for improving the resilience of metropolitan areas, as it guarantees fresh, local and seasonal foods. This factor is becoming increasingly relevant not only in unindustrialised economies but also in countries in the North, because many people in urban areas have not good access to foodstuffs from a nutritional perspective, so that conserving food is a prerequisite for food security.
