Mural cladding: nature at home
As from 1850, the fashion for papering walls with animal and plant motifs spreads, representing the biodiversity around us, and which, coincidence or otherwise, overlaps the period when the influential German naturalist von Humboldt (considered the father of Ecology) created a new way of understanding nature.
At the time Chinese paper was used, much appreciated for their beauty, quality and high cost, designed in London specifically for selling in Europe and America, but also European paper which also achieved great beauty at the time of Art Nouveau.
