Local Market (Spain)
Local markets were an important source of income on a small scale for rural women. They sold, above all, seasonal fruit and vegetables, bread, eggs and live poultry, because a lack of fridges meant they could not be preserved. Many of them had limited or no education and were often illiterate, but were able to keep an account of what they sold.
Rural women sell their wares at a local market where most of the customers are also women.
