Do good—plant a tree
Nasko took a photo of himself with a chestnut tree that he planted years ago. The tree is now taller than him. Nasko says that this is his response to the challenge of climate change. The place where he planted the chestnut tree is on the outskirts of Sofia, in the reforestation in the Vitosha foothills. Nasko wanted to plant birch trees, but they are difficult to grow and require special care. They are very delicate and need frequent watering, and there is no water nearby. So he decided to plant chestnut trees, which are a symbol of Sofia and line many of the city streets. «The trees will purify the air», says Nasko.
He further emphasizes that this tree also produces our «authentic clean water.» Trees are an integral part of the cycle of nature, but some people do not take care of them at all. For example, at the end of the 19th century, Kaiser Wilhelm, the last German emperor, killed more than seventy deer in a single hunt. And Mr. William Waldorf Astor, a viscount in England around the same time, cut down dozens of redwood trees just to show off his enormous wealth. Such monstrous destruction of nature is still happening today, and it should not be allowed to go unpunished.
