Difficulty of irrigation management in Africa

Water for the plots which women tend is often limited or difficult to access. In recent years, Benin, Mali and other countries crossed by the river Niger have sold or leased large stretches of land to foreigners, which has speeded up migration to the cities by men in search of opportunities. Cities account for 44% of the country’s population, and predictions for 2015-2030 are that this will continue to grow at around 3.4%.
