Baskets: wicker drying (Spain)

Most tools for transporting and keeping objects were made of vegetable or animal fibres, obtained from the biodiversity around human settlements. 76% of wicker produced in Spain is produce in the province of Cuenca, and most of it is transformed into baskets in Priego and nearby villages.

It is made from a species of willow (Salix Fragilia L), which is collected from January to May and spread out in fan-shapes over the fields. The process is now mechanised, and the type of wickerwork now produced has adapted to modern tastes.
