Sinergias ONG: About us
Sinergias is a Colombian non-governmental organization that was born as a coalition of academics and forest lovers who dreamed of state institutions strengthened and nurtured with local knowledge in the search for solutions to their most pressing problems. For 11 years we have strengthened ties with diverse communities in the development of projects that promote health and social change while respecting local cultures in the most difficult to access areas of the country. We seek that health is understood and guaranteed from a holistic approach as a single health, fighting for the balance between the wellbeing of people, communities, territory and ecosystem.
We have designed and implemented, with the communities, primary health care projects, strengthening of educational agents in early childhood, epidemiological collective intelligence processes, strategies for suicide prevention and protection of the territory, among others. Local knowledge has been key to the sociocultural adaptation of the national guides on health and biodiversity. This joint work has led to the prioritization of issues that were not discussed in the communities 10 years ago, such as gender-based violence, mental health, and weak organizational and governance processes. This has generated empowerment processes, such as the co-construction of leadership training strategies for governance in health, territory, coexistence, and well-being. Today, our efforts are focused on consolidating the skills of local leaders for the management of government models with a focus on territorial management and their own and intercultural health, and on strengthening the capacities of local public institutions.
The protection of the Amazon is fundamental for the planet, but it is essential that the indigenous peoples who inhabit and care for these territories can fully enjoy the fundamental rights that all Colombian citizens have. This work aims to contribute to this purpose.
