Pandemic on the allotment
Like the rest of society, the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic threw the allotment group off balance and dealt an important blow to our gardening lives. When the first recommendations to stay at home came, doubts arose about whether to continue with communal activities as planned or stay indoors. Then came lockdown and we were not allowed to go to the allotment. Although it hurt, plants, seeds, compost etc., took second place given the situation. What was important was to safeguard public health, which is also part of the communal and social focus of our allotment.
The allotment Network gave us the news that, with permission, one person was allowed to go to the allotment to check the drip irrigation system. All other activities were totally prohibited. Later, they also informed us that we could get a special permit from the district council so that several people could go and harvest. We decided that the best thing to do was to donate the harvest to those in most need of it. We quickly got to work and used our WhatsApp group to ask for the permit. We got in touch with the Somos Tribu collective who came to pick it up and take it to the Madrid food bank.
And so, despite the problems caused by pesky COVID19, we were able to carry out an act of solidarity, with the feeling of satisfaction this means.
