Forest resources: Amazonia
Declared on of the seven natural wonders of the world in 2011, the Amazon rainforest is the largest in the world: it takes up 40% of the South American landmass, shelters 30% of the world’s species and over 30 million people.
Over the last decades, Amazonia has suffered the fastest forest destruction on the planet due to felling for timber, oil and mineral exploitation and for the expansion of agriculture and livestock.
