Forced weaning of domestic mammals

Using the surrounding resources has been essential for the survival of human beings since our origins. A cleat is a wooden collar, usually made of ash wood for flexibility, shaped like a U and attached to an animal’s neck with a simple, movable latch.

On this piece, two spikes have been added to the basic collar to make an effective if rustic weaner.

Its use and purpose are simple: it is placed around the calf’s neck and when it tries to get to its mother’s udders it pricks her, so she kicks at the calf. Faced with this rejection, the calf gradually stops tying and all the cow’s milk can be used by its owners.
