Fountains: socialised work centres

Representatives of the first groups of rural Spanish emigrants, settled in a shanty town on the outskirts of Madrid, collecting water from a pipe about 3 km from their homes, for which they use all kinds of pots available; in the distance we can see a woman washing on another outcrop.

The situation of these communities, with no running water or other basic infrastructure, was similar to that of today in urban suburbs in countries with low or middle incomes which take in rural migrants.
