Women socialise while doing the washing, always surrounded by girls and boys. In a large metal bowl over a fire water is boiled with ashes to bleach and disinfect certain garments.

In 2015 85% of the population of Morocco has access to water, with important differences between rural (66%) and urban (84%) areas. 75% of the population had access to toilets in the country as a whole.
