Child labour?
Child labour is an indicator of poverty which includes boys and girls between 5 and 14 years old who spend at least 28 hours a week on domestic tasks, or at least one hour a week on an economic activity when they are between 5 and 11, or at least 14 hours a week if they are between 12 and 14. The global indicator does not allow us to discern between one type of activity and the other.
In Sri Lanka child labour has reduced markedly, and in 2015 it only affected 3% of boys and girls. The highest rates in the world correspond to southern Asia (37%), followed by Africa (where 30% of children), East Asia Oriental and the Pacific (27%) and Latin America and the Caribbean (5.3%).
